About Sampla
The Beginning: An Example
Sampla began in Waterford (2020) as a sustainable footwear project.
Sampla, the Irish word for “example” exists to set one.
The aim has been to set an example within the industry by creating footwear that uses innovative materials, while crafting each pair ethically.
Thoughtful design guides every choice, material, detail and process, along with the aim of creating shoes that feel timeless and that are built to last.
It began by bringing together design and function. What started as sketches and material research soon turned into two years of prototyping, testing and refinement.
To begin with, I just wanted to make a better shoe something honest. Something that doesn't scream for attention. I didn’t set out to build a brand.
A lot of what’s out there felt over-designed or over-marketed. It’s loud. Fast. Disposable. I wanted the opposite. A shoe that’s quiet. Considered. Useful.
I started Sampla to design footwear that feels like it's made for real life, but still says something. Not through logos but through form, material, and integrity.
Sustainability’s part of it, of course. But more than that, it’s about creating shoes with longevity that feel right, and age well. I design shoes and care about each detail of them, and would rather to let each pair do the talking.
I hope they become a part of your everyday and that you enjoy them as much as I do.
Elegance without consequence.
